Old cars sitting in junkyards are now a thing of the past. Today, scrapping End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) in India is properly regulated to protect the environment and public health.
Getting rid of an old car isn’t as simple as selling it to just anyone. If done incorrectly, it can harm the environment and put workers at risk because old vehicles contain dangerous materials. That’s why the government now requires authorized facilities called RVSFs.
At Recycle City, we are a government-approved Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF). We use modern equipment to make sure your car is recycled safely and that you get the best price for it.
Why Proper Car Scrapping Matters
- Cleaner Air: Removing old, polluting vehicles can reduce air pollution by 25-30%.
- Money in Your Pocket: You can get road tax refunds (15-20%) and discounts from car manufacturers.
- Safety First: Dangerous materials are handled properly, making roads and the environment safer.
If you own an old car, this guide from Recycle City will help you dispose of it responsibly.
What Not to Do When Scrapping Your Car
Taking your car to an unauthorized dealer can cause serious legal and financial problems. Here’s what you should NEVER do:
| Don’t Do This | Why It’s a Problem | How Recycle City Helps |
|---|---|---|
| Accept cash for your scrap car | It’s illegal and there’s no proof of the transaction for tax purposes | We pay only through bank transfers or digital payments, keeping everything legal and traceable |
| Use a facility that isn’t an RVSF/AVSF | Only authorized facilities can give you the Certificate of Deposit (CoD) you need for government benefits | We’re a certified RVSF, so you get all the benefits you’re entitled to |
| Skip informing the RTO (transport office) | You’re required by law to tell them. If you don’t, you’re still responsible for the vehicle | We handle all RTO notifications for you through the VAHAN portal |
| Forget to get your certificates | Without the Certificate of Deposit and Scrapping Certificate, you can’t claim benefits and you’re still legally liable | We guarantee you’ll get both certificates on time |
| Keep vehicle parts without permission | Keeping parts like the engine without RTO approval is illegal and can result in big fines | We’ll guide you through the proper process if you want to keep any parts |
What You Should Do When Scrapping Your Car
Follow these simple steps when you choose Recycle City:
- Protect Your Information: Only share your ID and personal details with the authorized RVSF/AVSF. They’re required to keep your information private.
- Get Your Tax Refund: Use government forms (Form DT and RTO Form 16) to get back any remaining car tax you paid.
- Submit Your Documents: Give your vehicle registration certificate (RC) to Recycle City, but keep the yellow slip from inside it for yourself.
- Check Your Insurance: Contact your insurance company to get a refund for unused premium or transfer the credit to your new car’s policy.
- Keep Your Number Plate: If you want to use the same registration number on a new vehicle, apply to the RTO office.
- Collect Your Certificates: Make sure you get the Certificate of Deposit (CoD) and the Certificate of Vehicle Scrapping from Recycle City. You should receive your Scrapping Certificate within 7 working days.
The Dangers of Using Unauthorized Scrap Dealers
When you use an unauthorized dealer for a quick cash payment, you’re taking big risks:
- Legal Trouble: Fake paperwork or illegal activities can come back to haunt you as the registered owner.
- Environmental Damage: Toxic materials aren’t handled safely, harming your community and the environment.
- No Benefits: You lose all government incentives because you won’t have a valid Certificate of Deposit.
Choose Recycle City for safe, legal, and profitable car scrapping.
